5 Things You Shouldn’t Buy on Black Friday

Savvy buyers know Black Friday can be one of the best days of the year to find terrific bargains, but not all items are such great deals. In order to better your experience on that infamous shopping day, here are some things you may want to avoid purchasing, along with when you may be able to score the best deals on them.

Toys

This may be surprising, but most toys will get cheaper as the holidays approach. In fact, the 14-day range before Christmas is often the best time to get a sizable deal, sometimes as much as 50 percent off. Unless you're afraid this year's trendy toy-du-jour will sell out, wait a few weeks to buy it.

Jewelry and Watches

Retailers know that guys turn to these stand-by gifts in droves, and they jack up the prices accordingly. Just as an FYI, the best time to buy that sparkly ring or pretty timepiece is between March and October — i.e., after Valentine's Day and before the holiday rush.

Televisions

Yes, you'll absolutely see some amazing deals on TVs come Black Friday, but they're usually on off-brands. Wait a bit longer if you want a premium name. Last year, TV prices overall hit their low for the year during the month of December.

Christmas Decorations

As any good bargain shopper will tell you, the best time to score cheap holiday decorations is in January. That said, you can still get some great deals to deck this year's halls if you hold off until the Monday after Thanksgiving — dubbed Cyber Monday — and shop online instead.

Coats and Winter Clothes

Lots of retailers will offer coupons on Black Friday, but if you use them on full-price items, they may not make for much of a deal. Use them instead on sale items for the biggest discounts, or wait until January when many stores will have deep mark-downs exceeding the discounts seen with a coupon during the holidays.

Watch Johnny Depp’s Weird, Drunken Speech at the Hollywood Film Awards

So this is why we don't see Johnny Depp on stage very often (ever?) at awards shows. Last night at the Hollywood Film Awards, Depp introduced the documentary ‘Supermensch,’ about legendary talent manager Shep Gordon, and immediately made it pretty clear that he was not sober-minded. “That's the weirdest microphone I've ever seen in my life,” he slurs—except, you know, it's just a regular microphone.

‘Captain America: Civil War’ Casts Daniel Bruhl as Its Villain

Even though the upcoming third ‘Captain America’ movie is based on Marvel’s ‘Civil War’ mini-series, where the heroes of the Marvel Universe faced off with one another in a battle over their right to privacy, the ‘Civil War’ film still needs a villain for Chris Evans’ Cap and Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man (and new addition Black Panther, played by Chadwick Boseman) to face off with as well. Although they didn’t reveal the identity of his character, Deadline reports that Daniel Bruhl will play the guy to pester the feuding Avengers.
