Weather Closings, Cancellations and Delays
Due to freezing temperatures and rain, there's a sheet of ice on many roads, streets, bridges and overpasses in and around Lufkin and Nacogdoches, a number of schools and other agencies are closed today. If there is any good news in this, it's that there probably won't be any rolling power blackouts today. ERCOT - the Electricity Reliability Council of Texas - is, however, urging people to set their thermostats as low as they can to conserve power. Here's the current list of weather-related closings, cancellations and delays.
Angelina College — All classes and activities on campus and at all off-campus teaching centers for Thursday evening have been canceled. The campus and off-campus will also be closed on Friday. Saturday activities will be held as scheduled.
Angelina County court-at-law #2 docket call — Docket call has been rescheduled from 9 a.m. Friday to 9 a.m. on March 2.
Apple Springs ISD — Classes canceled Friday.
Blood Center of East Texas — Will close at 3 p.m. Thursday and reopen at 10 a.m Friday.
Central ISD — Classes canceled Friday.
Charles Wilson VA Outpatient Clinic — Closed Friday.
Citywide Black History Celebration — Thursday night's event has been canceled, but there are plans to reschedule it later.
Diboll ISD — Classes canceled Friday. All afterschool activities for Thursday and Friday have been canceled.
First Friday Luncheon — The Lufkin/Angelina County Chamber of Commerce has canceled Friday's event but plans to reschedule it later.
Huntington ISD — Huntington ISD will start classes at 10 a.m. Friday.
Hudson ISD — Classes canceled Friday.
Lufkin ISD — Classes canceled Friday.
Lufkin ISD PACE Potpourri/Parent Meeting — Event scheduled for Thursday night has been canceled. The rescheduled date is Feb. 24.
Lufkin Kiwanis Club Spelling Bee — Saturday's event rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 19.
Lufkin Workshop and Opportunity Center — Closed Friday.
Nacogdoches County STOP meeting — STOP Public Meeting on Keystone XL Tar Sands Pipeline scheduled for Thursday night has been rescheduled for Thursday, Feb. 10.
Pineywoods Community Academy — Classes canceled Friday.
St. Cyprian's Episcopal School — Classes canceled Friday.
T.L.L. Temple Memorial Library in Diboll — Closed Friday. Will open 10 a.m. Saturday morning, weather permitting.
Zavalla ISD — Classes canceled Friday.
In Nacogdoches, Stephen F. Austin State University has cancelled all classes and events scheduled for today.
School districts in Nacogdoches County and all neighboring counties are closed, or delaying the start of the school day till ten oclock or noon.
Call your school if you are unsure of what it's doing today.
Law enforcement agencies say people should stay home and off the roads today, unless they just absolutely have to go somewhere. Those who must be out are urged to drive slow and be on the lookout for ice, especially on bridges and overpasses.
