If you asked people around the nation if they knew about the TV game show Jeopardy, you would probably get an overwhelming number of responses that said "Yes". However, if you asked the same people if they knew about Nacogdoches, you would probably get an overwhelming number of "No" answers.

These two aren't entirely strangers to each other, though.

During 34 seasons of Jeopardy, Nacogdoches has appeared in exactly TWO questions to contestants. And both of those questions have come in the 2000's! One was in 2004 and the other was in 2015. And, ironically enough, both of these questions had the same answer.

In 2004, the question was in the Double Jeopardy round, for $1200. The question: "The state university in Nacogdoches, Texas was named after him." The answer: Stephen F. Austin (duh).

In 2015, the question was also in the Double Jeopardy round, for $400. The question - "This 'Father of Texas' has two colleges named for him, one in Sherman and one in Nacogdoches." The answer - Stephen F. Austin (of course).

And those have been the only two times that Nac has been mentioned on Jeopardy. You would think that, as the oldest town in Texas, Nacogdoches would get a little more publicity.

However, we can't forget about 2016 when SFA's adjunct professor Seth Wilson did so well on the game show, then showed back up for the tournament of champions in 2017. So, Nacogdoches got a little more recognition that way.
