Everybody knows millions of Americans are overweight and out of shape, but now comes word that our pets are catching up fast.

According to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, more than half of American pets are overweight or obese.  The reason?  Owners who overfeed, don’t exercise their animals enough, and don’t know the problems caused by excess weight on pets.

The obesity problem in pets is following the numbers for men and women across the United States. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports at least 15 percent of the national adult population is obese.

It's also reported that pet health insurance policies are now paying out millions of dollars in costs related to obesity problem.

Many veterinarians are adding weight control and obesity therapy to their list of services.  What a country!  With millions of starving people around the world, American pets eat so much they're getting as obese as their owners.
