The Texas Forestry Association is holding its annual conference next week in Lufkin at the Pitser Garrison Conference Center, and speakers will cover everything from the economics of forests to conservation efforts.

It's a landmark year.  This year marks the 100th year that the group has been in existence.

The Texas Forestry Association has been celebrating the century mark in many ways, and they'll have a ceremonial tree planting next week to mark the occasion.   The tree is a Shumard Oak, and it will be planted in memory of Loren Leroy Bishop, first Forest Supervisor of the National Forests in Texas and the first Executive Secretary for Texas Forestry Association.  Lufkin Mayor Bob Brown will be one of the speakers.

Next week's conference at the Pitser Garrison Center runs from October 21st to the 23rd.
