Due to all of the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, schools will not receive an A-F rating for the school year from the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
Governor Rick Perry has appointed former Texas Railroad Commission Chairman Michael Williams to the position of Texas Education Commissioner. Williams also happens to be the first African-American ever appointed to manage the Texas Education Agency.
A backlash is growing in Texas education circles against the emphasis on standardized testing that's required under the federal No Child Left Behind Law. The rebellion started with parents and teachers, and now it has spread to principals and school district administrators in a number of Texas counties.
