Next time you get a tattoo in Lufkin or hit the tanning beds, you may find new rules and tighter health codes. Yesterday at the Angelina County Commissioner’s Court meeting a representative from the health department said several health code violations have been discovered recently. What’s the solution?

Big Brother wants your kids to lose weight and be healthier.  A school district on Long Island, New York is requiring a group of overweight and obese kids to wear electronic bracelets that monitor where they are and what they're doing at all times, especially if they're not active or exercising.

In what can only be described as an alarming trend, growing numbers of parents in more than half of the states are choosing to not have their children vaccinated. Even though the vaccinations are required for school attendance, states allow parents who object to them to opt out.  This has health officials worried about possible new outbreaks of diseases that were all but stamped out.

Most baby boomers say they're looking forward to a healthy and active retirement, according to a new poll conducted by NPR, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Harvard School of Public Health. But some experts worry that when it comes to the realities of their health, boomers are still woefully unprepared — or worse, in denial.

The Junior League of Lufkin's annual Back to School Bonanza program will be expanded this year, to include a variety of free health related services, in addition to school supplies.
