Fewer Atlantic Hurricanes Predicted This Year

The National Hurricane Center has released its hurricane forecast for the upcoming Atlantic hurricane season that begins June 1st. There's a sliver of good news in this forecast, because the experts are expecting fewer storms than we've seen in recent years.

Japan Tsunami Debris Floats Toward North America

Here's another aftershock of the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan last March. Millions of tons of debris from near total destruction were washed out to sea when the tsunami subsided and tides returned to normal.

Much of the debris sank to the ocean floor, but between one and two million tons of debris are still floating in the Pacific. Worse, it's drifting eastward toward North America, and a lot of it is going to wash up on a lot of shorelines over the next two years.

Feds Confiscate 900 Pound Blue Fin Tuna

Federal agents in Massachusetts recently swooped in and confiscated a 900 pound bluefin tuna from a man who fishes for a living. Why did they do that you ask? It was caught in a net, instead of on a hook.

Houston Chronicle Science Reporter Eric Berger is reading the meteorological tea leaves, and he reports today there's an outside chance that a tropical depression in the Caribbean is on a track that could take it into the Gulf of Mexico toward Texas - soon.

Tropical Storm Heading for South Texas

We have good news and we have bad news. First the good news. It's going to rain, a lot, in South and Central Texas in the coming days. The bad news? It's because of a tropical storm now moving across the Gulf of Mexico and heading straight for the lower Texas coast.
