Scams Keep Targeting Military Veterans

No one is immune from scams, not even the our current troops and military veterans. We're learned that scammers don't have a scrupulous bone in their body, so I don't suppose we should be surprised that they don't even spare the folks that we're supposed to hold in the highest esteem.

Sometimes, when a soldier comes back to East Texas from serving in the Middle East, they're milked for money.

The IRS is warning of a new scam that targets the military.

Perhaps we’ve all been perturbed by a scam at some point in our lives…one that comes in the form of a telemarketing phone call or an email that phishes for personal and financial information. But why bother our military heroes with that type of nonsense?! The criminals behind this scam may really tick off a lot of people. We’re supposed to support the troops, not con them.

President Obama Ends Ban on Gays in the Military

On Friday, President Obama joined Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Adm. Mike Mullen in formally signing a document certifying that military readiness would not be hurt by allowing gays in the military. The notice will now be sent to Congress.

The action officially repeals the 17-year-old “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy enacted during the Clinton Administration and begins the 60-day waiting period that will lead to a full lift of the ban.

Families of Military Suicide Victims Will Now Receive Presidential Condolences

Overturning a policy that has been in place for many years, the Obama administration announced Wednesday it will now send condolence letters to the families of service members who commit suicide.

"This issue is emotional, painful, and complicated," President Barack Obama said in a statement. "But these Americans served our nation bravely ... They didn't die because they were weak. And the fact that they didn't get the help they needed must change."
