Lufkin Panthers Head to Third Round of State Playoffs, Support Them This Weekend in Waco

The Lufkin Panthers defeated the Pflugerville Panthers last Saturday and advanced to the third round of the State Playoffs.  They will play Plano West on Saturday, December 1st at 2:00 PM at Waco ISD.  If you want to see the boys in action, tickets are $25.

Lufkin Saves Tree Seeds, Gives Another Texas Ecosystem New Life

It was a little more than a year ago that the most destructive wildfire in Texas history destroyed much of the vegetation in Bastrop County near Austin. It was a major setback for the renowned Lost Pines ecosystem. The fire covered 32,400-acres, destroyed 1,660 homes and killed 1.5 million trees.

Now, Lufkin is coming to the rescue. Eleven-hundred pounds of tree seeds that were stored in Lufkin and almost thrown into the land fill at one point, will help rebuild the Bastrop ecosystem.

Lufkin and Nacogdoches Plan Christmas Events

At some stores and homes, the Christmas decorations were up before Thanksgiving.

Those of us that did put up the Christmas tree before carving the turkey have been accused of breaking holiday rules, but rather than rebellion, we rule breakers argue it's convenient. With the decorating out of the way we could concentrate on matters like shopping.

Now that Thanksgiving is officially behind us, the rule followers are breaking out the Christmas lights too. Lufkin will light up the season with a Christmas parade on Tuesday.

Lufkin 4th Graders Recognized for Design Skills

Handicapped dogs may soon benefit from the work of some Lufkin 4th graders. Students at Brandon Elementary recently learned that a New Hampshire-based website picked up on their idea of new and improved “drag bags” for dogs, which are those things that handicapped dogs can put on, cool off, and move around the yard with a little easier.
