Now this may not be a national event, but sometimes you can find those not so popular venues and make a family outing out of them.

Case in point is the 4th annual Old Fashioned Sweet Tooth Sugarcane Event, scheduled this Saturday (January 12) in Nacogdoches.

Make your plans now to attend, but you'll need to get started early, as the event is only four hours long (8:00 a.m. to noon).

With most consumer meal products today using "high fructose corn syrup" as a sugar replacement, you will surely be able to taste the refreshing difference of the real thing, when freshly harvested sugarcane will be pressed in a real, honest to goodness sugarcane mill, then boiled down to produce delicious cane syrup.

It all takes place at the Durst-Taylor Historic House and Gardens, where you can chow down on pancakes being sold by the Kiwanis Club, and don't miss the blacksmith demonstration, or the smokehouse tour.
