Even though Texas has weathered the national recession better than most states, there are still many problems.  With tax revenue down over the past few years, the state has less money to spend and it has been forced to make drastic and painful budget cuts, most notably in spending for public schools.

As the elected State Comptroller of Public Accounts, Combs is the state's chief financial officer, and she will talk about these things next Tuesday May 1, at 4:15 pm in the Nacogdoches County Courthouse Annex meeting room, at 203 West Main.

The event is open to the public and there's no admission charge.

There's more information and how to RSVP at the Nacogdoches Chamber website:

Editor's note:  The words "comptroller" and "controller" are different spellings of the same word.  They mean the same thing, and both are considered acceptable wherever they are used.
