Update 1:00 p.m. EST: Ottawa police confirm that one of the gunmen was shot and killed, while another is still believed to be on the loose.

There were “several shooting incidents in downtown Ottawa” Wednesday morning, according to Ottawa police. The shooter or shooters have not been identified, though at least one is believed to be deceased.

Details are still pouring in as the situation develops, but numerous witnesses have described a chaotic scene in the Canadian capital. The three locations where shootings occurred were the “National War Memorial, near the Rideau Centre and Parliament Hill.” One soldier guarding the War Memorial was shot.

At Parliament Hill, the seat of Canadian government, Prime Minister Stephen Harper is being held under protection and was not harmed. There were dozens of gunshots, though, “in the main Canadian Parliament building [starting] in the foyer, and a second round of shooting happened about a minute later in a hallway or near the entrance to the Parliament’s library,” according to Ottawa journalist Josh Wingrove.

Wingrove also tweet out what he says is a picture of a body at Parliament Hill:

Military bases across Canada and police stations in Ottawa have been put on lockdown as the manhunt continues for any possible additional shooters.

This post will be updated as further information comes in.
