Twice a year, the SFA Gardens host their plant sales, one in the Fall and one in the Spring. It just so happens that the Garden Gala Day Sale is coming up this weekend - April 7th, in Nacogdoches at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, next to Raguet Elementary.

Having a wife that works for the gardens, I get to see the plants year-round. However, I'm always astounded at the number of plants that they are able to bring together for these sales. Almost as astounded as I am each year at how many people come out to shop at the sales. And this Spring is no different.

This time around, there will be over 300 different types of plants up for sale. That's a bunch of plants, most of which I have no idea how to pronounce the names of, much less how to care for.

This time, as with previous sales, it will kick off at 9:00 AM and will go until 2:00 PM. You probably will want to be there a bit early, so that you have a good position to start from. It's like a race at 9:00 on the dot. You've got people running - no, seriously RUNNING - to get to their chosen plants first. I generally go to the sales, not really for the plants, but to watch the people go after the plants. There's people running, wagons going every which way, volunteers trying to help load plants into cars, live music, etc. It's quite the experience.

About half of the plants for sale will be native plants from this area, with the other half being - surprise - non-native. You can see some of the inventory on the SFA Gardens Facebook page, or you can check out some of the plants that you can buy this weekend, below:
