PETA Asks Town of Turkey, TX to Change its Name
That headline is true. Saying Thanksgiving is murder on turkeys, the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is asking people in the Texas panhandle town of Turkey to rename their town "Tofurky" in time for Thanksgiving.
In a letter to Turkey, Texas Mayor Pat Carson, PETA VP Tracy Reiman says "By changing its name to Tofurky, Turkey would send a clear message that delicious, savory mock meat is an easy way to celebrate without causing suffering—and give a bird something to be thankful for."
Reiman says if the town's name is changed, PETA will provide a substitute vegan feast for the whole town of about 500 people.
As of Monday, the Mayor's office had "no comment."
Once again, PETA shows why almost no one takes them seriously.
