Monday afternoon, a slow moving line of storms spread over Deep East Texas and brought heavy downpours and quite a lightning show to the area.

Power outages were reported across the Pineywoods from Jasper and Sabine counties to the cities of Lufkin and Nacogdoches.  In fact, at one point, Oncor reported more than 5,500 customers were without power in Nacogdoches alone.  Some parts of Lufkin reported over 2 inches of rain in less than 45 minutes which caused some flooding in all the usual locations.

I was out and about when the storm arrived, so I decided to do some recording.  At first, I captured some close call lightning strikes near St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Lufkin, then, I decided to take the KICKS van through some puddles.  Frank Street in the hospital district and Raguet near the old Lufkin Industries are usually good for some bumper-high water.  I was a bit surprised that the creek at Chambers Park had reached the Pershing Street Bridge.

Then, while on Sunset Boulevard, a couple blocks from the KICKS 105 Studios, there was 'tree shrapnel' on the road from a lightning strike.

Check it all out in the video.
