The end of the school year may be just a few weeks in our rear view mirror, but the Lufkin Independent School District is already getting personnel changes in order for the 2013-2014 school year.

Barbara Lazarine, Principal at Anderson Elementary, will join the curriculum and instruction district leadership team at the Dunbar Education Center. With the retirement of Helen Strohschein, Director of Instruction - Testing, Policy and Mathematics, the position will be restructured to align the curriculum and instruction team for the district. Mrs. Lazarine has been with LISD for 30 years. She has taught in the classroom and was the Assistant Principal at Junior High West before becoming the Principal at Anderson Elementary.

Assuming the role of Principal at Anderson Elementary will be Cindy Tierney, the current Principal at Herty Primary. Mrs. Tierney has been with Lufkin ISD for 13 years. Before becoming Principal for Herty Primary she was the Gear Up Director.

Kathy Jost, current Principal at Brandon Elementary will be returning to Herty Primary as the Principal. She has been with LISD for 26 years. In other changes, the Lufkin ISD Administration and School Board announced the hiring of a new position for the Director of Communications and Public Relations for the district. Dr. LaTonya Goffney, LISD Superintendent, created the position to streamline the communication between campuses and to connect with the media. Sheila Adams has been hired for this position not only for her 15 years experience in marketing and public relations but for her knowledge of the community.

Mrs. Adams recently worked as Marketing Director of St. Cyprian’s Episcopal School and, before that, as Special Events and Media Coordinator for The Coalition and Marketing Director at Memorial Health System of East Texas. She has a Communications degree from Stephen F. Austin State University. She is married to Andy Adams, The Editor of The Lufkin Daily News and has two children, Andrew, age 10, who will be at Lufkin Middle School in the Fall and Anson, age 8, who will be attending Brandon Elementary as a third grader.
