According to a release from the Lufkin Police Department, detectives are investigating an early morning incident in which someone fired shots into a Ratcliff Street home where a family of five was sleeping.

Apolino Moran said he and his family, including his three daughters, awoke around 3 a.m Thursday to the sound of gunshots outside their 401 Ratcliff St. home. One round from a high-powered, semi-automatic rifle shattered his 14-year-old daughter’s bedroom window, while an exterior wall opposite from where she was sleeping stopped several other bullets from entering her room.

“My little sister heard six shots,” Moran’s son said. “She was afraid to get up, so she text our mom and asking if everybody was OK.”

A neighbor reported the incident at 2:54 a.m. In total, the suspect or suspects fired more than 10 rounds, hitting a truck parked in the family’s yard and the front of their home. No one was injured.

“If those rounds had penetrated the exterior wall, we could be dealing with a 14-year-old gunshot victim or worse,” Det. Starlan Glawson said.
