Lon Morris College is in such dire financial straits it has closed the campus and dormitories, laid off the faculty and support staff, canceled summer classes, and eliminated  the  athletic department.

More than a thousand students are faced with moving to a different school, and more than a hundred employees are out of work.

Lon Morris is affiliated with the United Methodist Church, which is taking donations from member churches around the state to help the school.  Jacksonville area churches and others are also stepping up to help.

Lon  Morris College is the oldest two-year college in Texas.  It was founded in Kilgore in 1854, and it moved to Jacksonville in 1894.  Has it reached the end of the line?  No one can say.
