It's been a rather non-eventful hurricane season so far.  Back in June, Tropical Storm Bill came on shore near Matagorda Bay with up to 60 mph winds.  That system dropped flooding rains across parts of East Texas, and now we have our first Atlantic Hurricane of the season.  Danny is a minimal hurricane with 75 mph sustained winds as of Thursday morning.  It's still a good 4-5 days away from Puerto Rico if it stays on its westward track.  Hurricane Danny is an unusually small hurricane as far as overall size is concerned.  Forecasters believe the storm could strengthen a bit over the next 2 days before possibly returning to a tropical storm as it approaches Puerto Rico.

What about the Gulf of Mexico and states along the Gulf Coast?

That's anybody's guess at this point.  If Danny makes it to the Caribbean it could start to re-strengthen, and if continues on its generally westward track, the storm could make it into the Gulf waters. But, that's a lot of uncertainty and it may be another week before we know what kind of impact Danny may have on U.S. coastal areas.
