The Family Crisis Center of East Texas in Lufkin is the winner in Day 73 of Toyota USA's 100 Cars For Good national philanthropic campaign. The Center beat the other four nonprofit finalists in the online voting, and it will get a free Toyota van from Loving Toyota of Lufkin.

Not just any old Toyota van.  The Center says it needs a Toyota Sienna Mobility MiniVan.  The Center helps victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, and  Director Heather Kartye tells the Lufkin News that a handicapped-accessible van will make it a lot easier and safer to carry  their clients with disabilities around town.

Kartye says they'll use this van to help their clients work toward living a self-sufficient life free from violence.

Kartye says they are thrilled to know so many people voted for them. “The outpouring of support from the community...has been overwhelming.”

The Center did have a lot of help in this competition. There was local media support on radio, TV, and in the newspapers, and Loving Toyota helped by inviting people in for refreshments and showing them how to vote for the Center.

We here at KSFA Radio and Townsquare Media are proud to send a huge shout out of congratulations to Heather Kartye and her staff, Jim Loving at Lufkin Toyota, and all the people in and around Lufkin who voted for the Family Crisis Center.

We love it when we can pass along good news.
