East Texas Plane Crash Under Investigation

The FAA is investigating a plane crash that happened in East Texas over the weekend.

Somehow the pilot and passenger survived the crash in a heavily wooded area of Upshur County, perhaps aided by some trees that sort of suspended the aircraft instead of letting it crash all the way to the ground.

The single engine Cessna went down in a wooded area off Culver road about a mile south of Highway 80 in Gladewater Saturday afternoon around 1;30pm.  Witnesses reported the plane was having noticeable trouble before it went down, and told DPS troopers it looked like the plane was trying to make it back to Gladewater airport.

KTRE reports the plane was tangled in the trees, a wing was broken and all the fuel was leaked out on the ground.  The plane came to rest on its side, tangled in tree branches. The investigation into what exactly caused the crash has been turned over to the FAA.
