The SPCA has more than 300 fighting roosters, hens, and young birds in its custody now after an Angelina County cockfighting ring was busted over the weekend.

There were almost 20 arrests after the cockfighting bust Saturday morning.  FBI agents, state troopers and the SPCA were all involved, and the SPCA will keep the birds until at least Friday when there's a custody hearing scheduled.

KHOU says those charged with cockfighting can be sentenced to up to two years in jail or fined as much as $10,000 and it's a felony.  Even being at a cockfight is a misdemeanor.

KTRE reported that cockfighting rings are usually associated with other crimes, and gambling paraphernalia was seized along with a weapon on Saturday.
