Early Morning Accident Shuts Down Parts of South First in Lufkin (UPDATED)

Both southbound lanes of First Street are now open, one northbound lane is open. 

5:30 AM

A one-vehicle accident in the 1500 block of South First Street has the road shut down from the intersection of Janeway Avenue to near Papa Johns Pizza and KICKS 105 in the 1200 block.

Around 5 Friday morning, a man in a car hit a power pole near Donut Palace, snapping it into several pieces and dropping the line across the road.  The man fled the scene on foot, but later arrived at Woodland Heights Medical Center for treatment.

It is unknown at this time how many people are without power in the area, but Oncor is currently working on the issue. Officers are hoping they will be able to get the scene clear before 8 a.m., but that may not be possible.
