Dr. Goffney Leaving Lufkin for Job at Aldine ISD
(from Lufkin ISD release)
Dr. LaTonya Goffney was named the lone finalist as the Superintendent of Schools for Aldine ISD on Tuesday night at the Aldine ISD school board meeting. Dr. Goffney has been the superintendent of Lufkin ISD for the past five years.
Under Dr. Goffney's leadership, the Lufkin Education Foundation was established, as was the Leadership Academy for aspiring leaders in the district. She created partnerships with Stephen F. Austin State University to create a STEM academy for high school students and Angelina College for an Early College High School. The district has been financially sound, even giving raises to teachers and staff for the past four years of her tenure.
Dr. Goffney says that being the superintendent of Aldine will give her the opportunity to make a positive difference in more student lives and to continue her goal to show the importance of public education.
She said, "I will always have a place in my heart for Lufkin. The friends I’ve made will be for a lifetime. Lufkin is a special place, and it is with God’s guidance that I take on this next opportunity."
Dr. Goffney said, "It’s always been about the kids and the work. I want what’s best for all kids, and I can honestly say I’ve been blessed by my experience in Lufkin. It’s with heartfelt thanks to the board, staff, parents and students for supporting me over the past five years. I covet prayers for my family and me on this next journey of our lives."
She was named the lone finalist at the Aldine ISD board meeting tonight, April 17, 2018. State law requires that Aldine ISD wait 21 days before offering her a contract.
