Don’t Make These Resume Goofs

If your email address is “drunkpartychick@something.com” or “jeffreydahmerwannabe@serialkillers.com,” you ought not include it on a resume.

Including raunchy and inappropriate email addresses is one of the biggest mistakes you can make on your resume when you’re trying to land a new job. What are some other big goofs?

I have to admit, this one I thought was okay: printing your resume on fancy paper. But it drives hiring managers nuts, according to a new survey. Plain white paper is best.

A CareerBuilder survey reveals the pet peeves of nearly 23 hundred hiring managers in the U.S., and 61 percent say they’d automatically ax a candidate whose resume includes typos. People who don’t catch typos aren’t that smrat I guess. Ooops.

Other no-no’s:

Resumes that don’t include a list of skills.

Resumes that are too long (more than two pages).

Resumes that include a photo.

Resumes that list “making dough” as an objective. You can have that objective, just don’t say it!

Good luck in your job search.
