There was a warning issued yesterday from the Texas State Health Department not to eat some of the fish caught in East Texas.

The warning posted on the state website says concerns have been raised over some types of catfish and bass after lab testing showed elevated levels of mercury and dioxins. And they say the fish were caught between the State Highway 7 bridge west of Lufkin downstream to the U.S. Highway 96 bridge near Evadale and both reservoirs: Sam Rayburn Reservoir and the B.A. Steinhagen Reservoir.

Women and children especially are advised not to eat blue catfish larger than 30 inches, flathead catfish, gar, largemouth bass larger than 16 inches, smallmouth buffalo and spotted bass larger than 16 inches.

There is no risk to swimmers, according to the TX Dept. of State Health Services.
