Domestic Violence Awareness Month 2015 Calendar Of Events

Stand Strong and Wear Purple - Lufkin "kick off" is Thursday, October 1, 2015
The Family Crisis Center and the Angelina County Sexual Assault Violence Education Coalition will kick off Domestic Violence Awareness Month with "An Empty Place at the Table" exhibit at their Lufkin Thrift store, located at 206 W. Whitehouse Drive. Lunch will be provided, and a special guest speaker, Teresa Howard, will share her story at noon. Purple hair extensions will be for sale for $10, and a great way to promote solidarity for this month's message.

Stand Strong and Wear Purple - Nacogdoches "kick off" Thursday, October 8, 2015
The Family Crisis Center and the Nacogdoches County Sexual Assault Violence Education Coalitionwill gather at the Nac Women's Shelter of East Texas Thrift Store located at 4610 North Street for free food, demonstrations, and speakers to commemorate the "Stand Strong and Wear Purple" event.

Lufkin Panthers vs John Tyler Football Match - October 9
The Family Crisis Center will be tailgating at Abe Martin Stadium 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. A special photo-booth and props will be set up to take photos for the "Love Should" campaign, which is a great way to get on social media and promote awareness about domestic violence.

SFASU Lumberjacks vs Nicholls State Football Match - October 10
The Family Crisis Center will be tailgating again, but this time at Homer Bryce Stadium from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. The "Love Should" photo-booth and props will be set up to take photos you can share on Facebook, Twitter, and everywhere else.

Self Defense Class - October 13
The Family Crisis Center is teaming up with the University Police Dept. at Stephen F. Austin State University. A free self defense class will be instructed by RAD (Rape Aggression Defense) instructors starting at 6 p.m. in the HPE climbing room at Stephen F. Austin State University.

Community Garage Sale - October 17
 The Family Crisis Center will team up with Angelina Beautiful Clean to have a Community Garage Sale from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Lufkin Etech parking lot. Angelina Beautiful Clean will have plants for sale, and K&B Moonwalk will provide a bouncy house for the kids. All items not sold will be donated to the Family Crisis Center of East Texas.

Family Fun Day - October 17
A "Family Fun Day" and Benefit Concert will be held at 9 a.m. all the way to 9 p.m. at Centennial Park in Huntington. Their will be fun and music for all ages to enjoy.

Zombie Walk to Scare Away Family Violence - October 24
The Lufkin Middle School Theater Department of Lufkin ISD is having  a fun Zombie themed walk starting at 6 p.m. on that Saturday before Halloween. It's free, but canned goods will be accepted to benefit the Family Crisis Center. This event even has its own Facebook page, at Lufkin Zombie Walk 2015.
