In September, British researchers believed they had made a pretty startling discovery while digging under a car park in Leicester, which is about 100 miles southeast of London.

They had come upon what they thought were the remains of King Richard III, who died fighting the forces of Henry Tudor at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485. He is the last English monarch to die during war.

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) released its Education at a Glance 2012 report, and two of its conclusions jumped out at us: 1) countries that spend more on education tend to have more highly educated populations, and 2) the more educated you are, the more likely you are to be employed.

While that may not sound too surprising, it’s an important reminder of just how valuable education is in the current globalized economy—especially following a calamity like the 2008 financial collapse and subsequent recession that America is still ever-so-slowly recovering from.

Taken as a whole, the report is a good indicator of which countries are the most educated, and, helpfully, the OECD showed us how they made those determinations.

Indian State Declares Open Season on Poachers

A state in western India is so disgusted with tiger poachers that it has declared open season on them. The government of the state of Maharashtra is allowing state forest guards to shoot illegal hunters on sight -- in an effort to put a stop to the rampant killing of protected wildlife, especially the dwindling population of tigers.

To make this legal, this government simply declared that killing or injuring suspected poachers is not a crime anymore.
