The Dallas chapter of the NAACP is calling on the state to abolish the Texas Lottery. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports the nation's oldest civil rights group wants low income Texans to stop pumping money into the state lottery.

KHOU TV in Houston reports a man who claimed Texas’ version of a stand-your-ground law allowed him to kill a neighbor in an argument over a noisy party has been found guilty of murder and sentenced to 40 years in prison. Barring a successful appeal, a prison cell much like the one shown below will be his home for at least the next 20 years.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott says on one hand, he thinks the US Supreme Court ruling that upheld President Obama's health care overhaul was wrong.  On the other hand, Abbott says the ruling is still a victory for individual liberty and states’ rights.

The Obama administration got an enormous victory on Thursday when the Supreme Court voted 5-4 to uphold the President’s signature achievement: the 2010 health care law. And in a surprise to many court watchers, it was Chief Justice John Roberts who sided with the more liberal justices and wrote the majority opinion.
