James Holmes, the former neuroscience graduate student suspected of killing 12 people and wounding dozens more during a July 20 shooting rampage at a movie theater in Aurora, CO, has been formally charged with 24 counts of murder and 116 counts of attempted murder.

The Lufkin News reports Lufkin School District officials are worrying out loud about the federal funding the district stands to lose when the Federal Budget Control Act goes into effect in January.

In the aftermath of that fatal five-vehicle crash on State Hwy 7 outside Crockett back on July 16, the Texas Department of Transportation is pointing to that accident as proof of the need to be extra cautious and aware in highway construction zones.

KHOU TV in Houston reports a man who claimed Texas’ version of a stand-your-ground law allowed him to kill a neighbor in an argument over a noisy party has been found guilty of murder and sentenced to 40 years in prison. Barring a successful appeal, a prison cell much like the one shown below will be his home for at least the next 20 years.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott says on one hand, he thinks the US Supreme Court ruling that upheld President Obama's health care overhaul was wrong.  On the other hand, Abbott says the ruling is still a victory for individual liberty and states’ rights.
