Rising Property Values Raise Property Taxes

We have good news and -- maybe some bad news -- for some Angelina County home and land owners.  The good news is that the Angelina County Appraisal District says property values are finally going up - instead of down.  The bad news is that rising property values also mean higher property taxes.

Lon Morris College Files For Bankruptcy

Lon Morris College in Jacksonville is on life support financially, because it is so deep in debt it can't pay its bills or meet payrolls.  The situation is so critical that creditors were preparing to foreclose several buildings on the campus this week.

The Jacksonville Progress reports LMC officials have headed off the foreclosure by filing for federal Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection.

B’Ship Texas Leaking — Is She Doomed?

The historic 100 year old Battleship Texas at San Jacinto State Park is fighting a new enemy, and she may not win this battle.  She's so rusty her hull is leaking. Worse, fixing this latest leak is like trying to save a dying man with a band-aid. It's sad to contemplate, but this most historic of all 20th century battleships appears to be doomed.
