Bring This To Nacogdoches…or Lufkin, I’m Not Picky

Last weekend, I got the opportunity to attend something that I had never attended before. I went to Medieval Times in Dallas. If you've never been to one of these, it's basically a dinner theater. As you walk in, you are taken back in time, to the world of kings, queens, knights, tournaments, etc.

You are seated, and you begin the "feast". And, you have to treat the food like you've gone back in time, too, meaning no silverware. Your hands are all the silverware you get. As you go through the meal, the tournament begins. And, when I say tournament, I'm talking about jousting, sword fights, horses, the whole thing. You're seated in different-colored sections, which correspond to which knight you're supposed to be cheering for. So, for example, if you're in the green section - which is the section that we were in this weekend - you'll be cheering for the green knight. And, they proceed to go through the tournament, competing for the queen, until just one knight is left standing. It really is quite an enjoyable experience.

The only thing is...Dallas is the closest one of these venues. We have nothing similar to this in Nacogdoches, Lufkin, or even Tyler. So, if you want to attend, you have to make the trek to DFW. I think that should change. If you have any pull in any of our local communities, maybe you should bring up the idea of bringing one of these arenas, complete with dinner theater, into Deep East Texas. And, if you're not really keen on the ideas of knights and tournaments, I know of a similar one in South Carolina (yes, I know, a much more ridiculous drive, but just hear me out) that does a dinner theater with a pirate-theme. I'd be perfectly fine with that, too.
