Central Family Mourns Grandson Killed in Colorado

The Lufkin News reports a couple from Central have a close and tragic connection to the mass shootings inside a movie house in Aurora, Colorado last week.  Their grandson -- 26 year old Jonathan Blunk of Aurora -- was one of the 13 people who were killed.

Early Voting For Runoffs Gets Underway

Texas voters have some unfinished business from the May 29th Texas primaries.  Both parties have a few nominations to settle with runoffs, and runoff election day is July 31st.

Early voting for the runoffs is underway and runs through Friday -- 8 am till 5pm --   in the Commissioners’ Courtroom at the Angelina County Courthouse Annex, 606 E. Lufkin Ave. in Lufkin.

Battleship Texas Dry Berth Plans On Hold

Because of the ever increasing costs of repairing the old dreadnought, plans to build a dry berth around the ancient Battleship Texas have been moved to the back burner - for now.  The old ship's future -- if it even has one -- is now in serious doubt.

The ship's managers are spending all the money they're getting from the state just to fix all the leaks and keep her afloat in her mooring at the San Jacinto Battleground State Park.
