2014 Oscar Winners!

2014 Oscar Winners
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

The 2014 Oscar winners were announced Sunday, March 2 during the awards ceremony, hosted by celebrated comedienne Ellen DeGeneres and broadcast live by ABC.

All throughout the race leading up to Hollywood’s big night, ‘12 Years a Slave‘ (directed by Steve McQueen and starring Chiwetel Ejiofor) was among the top contenders, and the film ended up walking away with the biggest award of the night, Best Picture, in addition to Lupita Nyong’o's well-deserved win for Best Supporting Actress. Elsewhere, Alfonso Cuaron‘s ‘Gravity‘ earned itself the most wins — seven total, including one for Best Director, making it the film to win the most Oscars except for Best Picture since ‘Cabaret,’ which won eight. Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto both scored their first Golden Globes earlier this year for ‘Dallas Buyers Club,’ and both won in their respective categories at the 2014 Oscars, as well. And who could forget Cate Blachett‘s epic win of Best Actress for ‘Blue Jasmine‘?

Watch Johnny Depp’s Weird, Drunken Speech at the Hollywood Film Awards

So this is why we don't see Johnny Depp on stage very often (ever?) at awards shows. Last night at the Hollywood Film Awards, Depp introduced the documentary ‘Supermensch,’ about legendary talent manager Shep Gordon, and immediately made it pretty clear that he was not sober-minded. “That's the weirdest microphone I've ever seen in my life,” he slurs—except, you know, it's just a regular microphone.

Even though the upcoming third ‘Captain America’ movie is based on Marvel’s ‘Civil War’ mini-series, where the heroes of the Marvel Universe faced off with one another in a battle over their right to privacy, the ‘Civil War’ film still needs a villain for Chris Evans’ Cap and Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man (and new addition Black Panther, played by Chadwick Boseman) to face off with as well. Although they didn’t reveal the identity of his character, Deadline reports that Daniel Bruhl will play the guy to pester the feuding Avengers.
