The Corpus Christi Caller-Times reports it happened on US 59 near the town of Berclair, about 60 miles north of Corpus Christi.

A Ford F-250 pickup truck carrying  23 people in the cab and the truck bed went off the road and hit two large trees late Sunday evening.

13 people were killed, including two young children.  Ten people were taken to hospitals in Corpus Christi, Victoria and San Antonio.  Several are in critical condition.

Investigators say the truck was going north, but they don't know where it was coming from or going to.  They do know all the victims are Hispanic, and representatives of Mexican Consulates in several cities are assisting the survivors and the families of those killed.
